Shiloh is Caden’s service dog — trained in deep pressure therapy, retrieval, body blocking, and seizure alerts. He also goes to school, navigates crowds, and is, in Caden’s own words, his best friend.
THE PLACEMENT
A dog with several jobs — and one Caden.
Service dogs typically specialize. One alerts to seizures. Another helps with mobility. Another with anxiety. Shiloh does all of it.
For Caden, his Snowy Pines-bred Lab is more than a single-purpose service partner — he’s a daily companion trained to handle whatever the day brings. A school hallway full of students. A dropped toy that needs to come back. A quiet moment when anxiety starts to rise. And one task we never taught him: the early warning signs of a seizure, which Shiloh started flagging for Caden’s parents on his own.
In Caden’s own words: “He helps me feel secure. He goes to school with me and everywhere I go. He helps with my anxiety and is a great companion to me. He is my best friend.”
WHAT SHILOH DOES
Deep pressure therapy. Shiloh applies steady, calming pressure across Caden’s legs to ground him during moments of anxiety or sensory overload — a trained task with real physiological effect, not just a friendly dog leaning in.
Retrieval. When Caden drops something he can’t easily reach, Shiloh picks it up and places it gently in his lap. A small task that returns a piece of independence to every day.
Body blocking. In crowds, Shiloh positions himself between Caden and other people — a calm, ninety-pound buffer that creates personal space without confrontation.
Seizure alerts — the one job we never trained. Shiloh has alerted Caden’s parents in advance of seizures. This wasn’t part of his training curriculum. Seizure detection isn’t something we teach — it’s a sense that emerges, when it emerges at all, from the bond between a dog and the person they live with. Shiloh figured out the early signs on his own. That bond, and what it produces, is the part of a placement that no training manual can write.
And the work that has no name. Being right there. Being calm when Caden isn’t. Being the constant in a day full of variables.

Camping, school, the football field, the grocery store. Shiloh’s office is wherever Caden needs him to be.
I feel more at ease when he is around me. Being in crowds, Shiloh ensures me that he is right there with me and everything will be ok. He has truly made my life better.
